KUCHMURATOV Iskak |
Iskak Kuchmuratov is a
Kyrgyz artist who not only loves practicing his art, but teaching it as well. Born in 1956
in the remote Jumgal region of the Kyrgyz Republic, Iskak graduated from the Kyrgyz State
Art College in 1983. He went on to earn a degree in Arts and Graphics from the Issyk-Kul
State University in 1992. He became a member of the Artists' Union of the Kyrgyz
Republic in 1999. Today, Iskak is a professor in the Drawing, Still Life, and Sculpture
Department of the Kyrgyz State University of Construction, Transportation, and
Architecture. Over the years, Iskak has
participated in numerous contests and exhibitions, including the poster contest "Let's
Save Issyk-Kul" (1990) and "Prejevalsk through the Eyes of Youth" (1991), at which
both he won second place. Other exhibitions included the 70th anniversary
celebration of Ch. Aitmatov (1999), the 3000th anniversary of Osh (2000), an
UNDP-sponsored exhibition dedicated to March 8th (2001), the 10th
anniversary celebration of Kyrgyz independence (2001), and an exhibition to mark the
beginning of the International Year of Mountains (2002).
Iskak also showed his works in a solo exhibition
and in an exhibition in France (2001). Today, his works can be seen at the Kyrgyz State
Museum of Fine Art and in private collections in the Kyrgyz Republic, Kazakhstan, Turkey,
Canada, USA, Poland, Germany, Italy, United Kingdom, South Africa, and France.
